Tetris Battle: The Facebook Game

Tetris Battle is Facebook Game which is based off Tetris, the most popular game.

Tetris is a popular puzzle game that was released during the early years of the 1980’s. The word “Tetris” comes from the Greek word: “tetra” which means four. Thus Tetris has four “tetrominoes” which look like these:

There have been many attempts to “revive” Tetris, all of which were considerably successful. Tetris has been in seen in many gaming consoles especially on mobile phones. This makes Tetris one of the most popular games if not the greatest game of all time.

Recently Tetris was revived by means of a different medium: Social Media. Currently Tetris is seen as a Facebook Game which had over 11 million users playing under the name “Tetris Battle”.

Both games are similar in nature except that you have to compete in Tetris Battle. The original Tetris has only two enemies which are “gravity” and “time”. The “revived” Tetris Battle includes a foe which can either be human or artificial intelligence. Tetris Battle also added the concepts of “bombs”.

The bombs in Tetris Battle indicate the number of lines you have sent to your enemy. They take up one line and you must hit the icon with a tetrominoe to “detonate” it. Clearing a bomb will send one line to your enemy. This is one of the means of sending a line to your enemy in Tetris Battle. But the main way to send a line in Tetris Battle is by clearing two or more lines, either successively or simultaneously.

There is also a ranking system in Tetris Battle. The player starts with two stars, each game won will give either one or two stars depending on their performance. People who have played Tetris before might get an accelerated rank increased depending on their game play therefore making it possible to get from Rank 1 to Rank 12 in a single game.

As you progress in Tetris Battle whether in level or in rank you get to buy “accessories” for your tetrominoes, the ability to upgrade or “tune-up” your game play by tweaking your controls and etc.

When doing a game in Tetris Battle, you spend energy points which are recuperated over time. You cannot play against non-friends and AI without these energy points. But it is possible to play against “friends” without spending any energy points. Therefore inviting friends can help you progress further in the game.
